Do you ever find it weird that sometimes when you easily get so bored thinking of what to blog next, does it make you stare at your stats twenty times a day and click them until you get tired of it? C’mon isn’t this something all of us bloggers do on a daily basis? If your claim I-am-not-one-of-them, then you’re wrong. So why would you care putting technorati, who-is, rss, etcetera links in your sidebar? What are those for?

I don’t know for sure if statistics are the measurement of our success. Someone can get really crazy on how many visitors we receive each day, how much money did we make (attn: self-host blogs, I do like to read your entries but sometimes it’s painful in the eye when you have all those ads plastered all over you entry). Considered, I’m the jealous brat, but how many RSS readers do you have? When we start blogging for ourselves, we developed this bad habit of checking our stats dozens upon dozens of times everyday. Do you ever try refreshing your browsers if the number of comments change? Try clicking you blog pages and pretty sure, you’ll get hits (I heard people saying, clicking blog pages do counts). Have you ever thought that it’s a pain in the azz if one day, your readers favourite clicks are usually the sex-related? You might recognize yourself here being one of those.

I suggest, stop doing it now. You’re most likely depressing yourself. The only reason why we would check our stats this often, is that, because nothing is happening entirely in our stat account. I’d like to think that spam comments generate hits since I’ve always got hundreds of them everyday. If you are a beginner who check your stats so frequently, most likely you are desperate to see some action in your blog? How would it affect your blogging habits? What are you going to do about it? First of all, if you’re doing these all the time, nothing much is going to happen anyways so nothing unusual with that, but even so, people are very disappointed when they see nothing, which then eventually leads them to giving up.

If you have come across at Thess blog, one of her regular commenter Meeya, shared her views about why other people take advantage of the so-called Ads.

“link trains” are used by some bloggers who seriously want their sites to have a high standing in feed ranking sites like, for example, Technorati, because the more sites link to a blog, the higher up the blog’s stand is in their list. for popularity-purposes ba. this is especially helpful if the blogger is serious about making lots of money by placing adsites in their blogs. kasi the higher up (or “popular”) you are in feed ranking, the more your site is “desired” by advertisers. the more adsites are placed on a blog, the higher the blogger earns. ganun lang yun, i think. kaya categorized siguro yang meme sa “business” because, after all, they make money from it.

If you want hits without worrying anything to make money out of your blog, why not spend your time building something to a level where you can make TONS of money without checking your stats? The answer? ADSENSE? Not really. But technically, people who are doing good on this game, so far are the techie blogs. It is no contest that technology blogs surely always wins. Say, if you post something related to Apple, periodically, you’ll get a lot of hits, trackbacks and even a lot of money. Apparently not everyone, as opposed to earning something from textads, are happy about these tactics.

CKSurprisingly enough, sex-related entries are something that you can also sell in your blog. Out of curiosity, I wrote something in the past that people loves clicking every nanoseconds, it remains as one of my Most Click Post. Wonder why? I’m curious now that even on commercials, sex definitely sells. I once saw a billboard of CK denim jeans (pictured), only to deliriously wondered, if that sexy ad can really make me look hotter? Apparently it’s too much for some. In a couple of cases this kind of strategy actually don’t sell at all. Others would think, they’re just a teaser for consumers.

But then again, there are business-minded folks who have found a way to use their blogs to bring in a little extra cash too. So if you’re planning to sell your blog, be sure to give value from your content, and not you as the author. Obviously, my question is, do you blog because you want to show off your blog in the future? Earn money? Do you blog because you love blogging? Or maybe you have your other reasons?

As for my blog, I’m keeping it as is. I do not know when my blogging ends, maybe tomorrow and most probably not today. Besides, I gain friends by visiting blogs and leave comments. Like what The Pussycat Dolls used to sing, if ‘you know how to ‘preciate me, I must stickwitu’.

Anyways, this is for the guys, would you like someone MOANING YOUR IP? In general, I prefer noises of pleasure over numbers.

  1. i would guess that even visitors (ex. like me) are somewhat affected with this battle between content and cash in the blogs. sometimes, i am having a second thought in visiting a blog which i know, would only slap my face with those catchy ads and gain nothing from what the author writes, in the rational and practical side of things.

Dimaks, that’s true. I have this few blogs I visit 24/7 and I really didn’t mind the ads, amazons, adsense, flashy-blinking images but the contents are the ones that captures everything on. I like those.

  3. I blog because I like it, and of couse because I keep making intersting friends. I have met some of them in person. An if someone has to moan my IP defenetly y prefer a mens moan.

  4. I blog for 2 blogs, one with commercial (ads) and my blog, without commercial(less all gadgets that you’re talking about on the side bar), but I don’t think about the cash, might be because I’ve nothing to do with that part, I’m just writing and would choose topics that I thought might be of interest to readers. I guess I blog because I like to write, I don’t even know what kind of traffic the site with the commercial is getting, I told a friend that I would help out by being a contributing author and that’s my main job, to bring good contents to reader. I think when money is not involved; you’re more creative in your writing and getting good topics.

Inthesity, silly. I’m sorry couldn’t find any moaning IP of men’s. I can do that, call me. :)

Ginger, sometimes there are days that I feel like posting only pictures. See, been dreaming/thinking of photography because silence is louder (out of an image) than the words we say or write.

  6. I just blog for the fun of it and typing out my sometimes outspoken opinions just to see who I could piss off. I have to admit sometimes I check my blogstats like, every fifteen minutes sometimes.

I wrote about MySpace bulletins and that’s probably the most popular blog post.

Wendy, I do that too. I’m quite intimidated knowing some inbound links that literally (I mean figuratively) gives me the thought as to why that/this person keeps reading the same old entry. Wondering what made it so special? So yeah, I click and clack and watch my spikey stats on a daily basis.

nice entry “K” … i always thought of putting up does ads on my blog. but heck i dont even know how to align my pictures sa post maglagay pa nun. wehehe.

Anyway the only reason im blogging is “wala” i dont know … cguro gusto ko lang. :)

  9. my blog is more like a journal/diary…seeing a lot of visitors is flattering at times but it’s really more on diary type of thing. it’s also my way of finding blog friends with same interests. =)

‘Wind, your blog speaks about you (and some) actually I can relate. It’s always easy to express and put them in writing yung mga experiences natin sa araw araw.

Diane, I honestly can say that my blog is not really that personal for me. And some things in life is best kept as secrets.

  11. as i said in thess’ blog, i don’t begrudge the people who choose to put ads on their site. ok lang ako dun, ganun talaga eh. to each his own. :) pero i don’t appreciate yung people sending link trains to people in the guise of friendship, tapos yun pala marketing scheme nila yun. huwag na lang kasi mandamay di ba? :)

Meeya, end of the day I realized, what if I had an adsense in my account? How much does a single click worth? God knows how much cause I know it will help me feed myself. I don’t even know what those damn paypal for, let alone use it.

  13. I totally agree with Meeya. I just don’t like people who link up just to have a higher ranking on, say for example, technorati… Feeling ko ginamit lang ako non!

  14. hi K, i’ve had adsense since last year. ang kinita ko? $4 dollars pa lang since then, hehehe. i think ayaw sa akin ng advertisers. pero some probloggers, my gosh, they earn about $5k-$20 per month. i think that takes a lot of commitment (na wala ako, hehe). try mo, extra shopping money din yun. :P

Duke, when you said, ‘people linking up to…’ in my mind I was like, I remembered a year ago while I still blog at my own domain, this certain blogger irks me everytime I see his/her name on a blogroll of somebody I often visit, the ones linking to mine.

Meeya, $4? Oh my goodness, not that BIG? Yours naman is not crowded (as well as Duke’s) and eventhough you put adlinks to your blog, mas may laman naman yung entries mo kesa sa iba (I am not against naman with it), na-observed ko lang. If only wordpress.com allows adtext, I’d go ahead no matter what. Mag domain ulet kaya ako?

  16. Being a pro blogger is interesting, but it’s hard to get into that field. You need to tailor your posts towards a certain market. At the end of the day, I haven’t put any ads on my hosted blog yet. In my opinion, I still don’t have enough hits to actually make it worth it. I don’t really care about getting 20 or 40$ from my blog per month.
