A Dialogue With K

Bumblebee

I think Bumblebee is the only name I could only remember after watching Transformers few days after it was finally opened in Hong Kong cinemas. I didn’t see long queues so getting a ticket in the counter was only less than five minutes. This movie has all the elements of success in “transformations”, big, fighting, transforming - in short, ROBOTS.

Apparently, it was like a LOUD earthquake banging inside my head. It made me really dizzy. I couldn’t understand anything, mumbling a word in my head, “what is going on?”. There are lots of sequence, cut here (ten seconds in every angles), action there, drama here and so on. Did I hear audiences laughing? Sure I did. I’m sorry but talking robots just don’t work for me. Although the actor Shia LaBeouf (starring in the next movie Disturbia - which I would probably watch), does a good job with his role, he does some funny stuff - well doesn’t everybody was funny? Problem is, there are too many where there shouldn’t be jokes because look, such a super-giant robots fighting in the big city would be such a scary thing to see, so obviously it goes nowhere.

In other words, it’s an action between good robots vs bad robots fighting simultaneously about something that robots do, a lot of fighting. Of course there’s a little human-touch in there in the form of loveable nerd Shia and the sexy Megan Fox. So if I want to pick something in this movie, I could be blind but for me, I thought I was watching The Lord of The Rings War of The Worlds with a little bit of Terminator.

Surprisingly, that’s about it. There were other little things, but nothing I can remember worth noting. It’s a dumb movie, don’t get me wrong, but there is room in the world for dumb movies sometimes. Actually, what’s the point? I probably think Harry Potter is more fun to watch.

It was a free treat so NOT complaining is not a bad thing, right? It was okay but not that great.

awww, K…you didn’t like the movie huh? I watched it last weekend and it’s by far the best summer movie I’ve watched! Although I still gotta see Die Hard, Harry Potter and Ratatouille

Btw, I’d love to have car like Bumblebee :)

i don’t like robots either. am glad i didn’t watch it. some people really liked the movie. so to each his/her own. glad you didn’t fall asleep…i often sleep on and off when i watch boring or loud movies.

C, I think the many good reviews I read in some blogs about this movie, spoils the “fun” out of me. I would say, my Summer Movie is the Die Hard movie, it shares a great deal about the real world, it may be purely coincidental but in some cases, I found the story gripping as it could happen in real life. I recommend this one for you.

Belle, I was annoyed by the audience actually - they were laughing so hard in some scenes where I think was unnecessary, often it even detratcs from the best bit of the movie.

di mo nagustuhan :( i love the movie. Why? kasi it brings back my childhood memory. Sarap ng kwentuhan namin magpipinsan about the differece between the character from the movie and the cartoons. Well thats your opinion and that i wont complain ….. :) stay safe … padaan-daan muna ako.

Hahaha ‘wind, I enjoyed some parts, (specially the NOKIA transformation) but I think I didn’t grow up with Robots. In the province many years back, wala kaming TV nun (nakiki-nood lang kami sa bahay ng Lolo namin). Would you believe laruan ko nun eh gawa pa sa kahoy na otto-ottohan lang. Vintage ata ako masyado.

  6. airwind said, on August 3rd, 2007 at 3:48 pm

Same here .. wala rin kaming TV during that time. Well im thankful kasi because of that medyo naging creative ako. :)

i havent seen the movie yet. hintayin ko na lang sa dvd :) pero senti ako sa transformers. kahit babae ako, naglalaro ako niyan at pinapanood sa cartons dati. si optimus prime naman ang fave ko. :)

did you know that the orig cartoonist of the transformers is pinoy? rsi floro dery, research mo. :D

‘wind, naka-relate ako diyan, tuwa ko pa nung binilhan na kami ng otto na plastic, may gulong pero walang battery, ang saya ng maglaro, ‘tas pupunta kami ng dagat, gagawa kami ng mga palasyong buhangin, ‘tas tutumba namin, ‘tas umasenso kami kunti, aba ROBOT na (bigay ng tatay ko galing Japan) may ilaw, asteg na. ‘tas nagaawayan na hanggat masira di na nag transform. HAHAHAHA.

Meeya, I think the very concept of robots that turn into cars is a good idea for toys. It’s a stupid idea for a movie and it’s very violent so I don’t think it is ok to bring a 6 yr old child in the cinema. Thanks for the link about Floro Dery. I enjoyed his drawings. Sobrang GALING nya! I enjoyed comics, eh laking palengke kami, sinusubaybayan ko yung ‘hindi-ko-na-matandaan’ na action hero. Ahhh Superman. I miss the good old days. Uy, may Liwayway ka ba?

Hi K, I think I’ll pass one the movie, not my type. I like the song ‘What I’ve Done’, just want to come in and say Hi btw. :D

  10. K said, on August 4th, 2007 at 12:18 pm

Ginger, in my opinion, it didn’t actually WOW me. I love action movies, and technically this one would give you the wild imagination. In the movie, it was like, robots protecting humans? It looks cool because the filmmakers spent a ton on special effects. Well if you had these toys growing up, then I suggest you go watch this movie if you want a bit of Nostalgia. And oh, that’s the soundtrack of the movie.

hahahah I only remember Optimus Prime and the soundtrack of The Transformers! I heard, the SFX are great but just like any other action movies, the story is quite lame. Typical Michael Bay movie but I still love his works!

btw, K I tagged you on a music meme!
Hope you can do it :)

by the trailer, godzilla and spiderman came to my mind.

  14. range said, on August 6th, 2007 at 3:08 am

    It was all right.

I didn’t go to the movie theater to watch it though.

I liked the explosions and the sounds of the Transformers transforming.

Duke, my nephews loved it obviously. They even asked me to buy the game for their xbox. The typical of me said, “mas mahal ata ang DVD game na yan kesa sa McDonalds”? Wala, Uncle daw ako so dapat I need to be nice to them besides McDonalds is a yuck, they argued.

Dimaks, at least Spidey has nice story there - even bought a Spidey toy which I now “stick” to my loft.

Range, I was a bit disappointed, I should have bought the fake DVD instead. I didn’t pay for the movie tickets so it was fine.

oo naman liwayway girl ako, with matching kislap on the side hehe

  17. Virgilius Sade said, on August 9th, 2007 at 6:28 pm

Well, it is normal for people not to like it, but then again it could be because they’re either prehistoric movie critics that should drop dead or because franchise-wise they aren’t fans like myself are that can connect to such things.

  18. K said, on August 9th, 2007 at 9:14 pm

Meeya, hahaha Kislap, masyadong ‘vintage’. Ngayon, ‘Yes’ magazine na - at least glossy na ang mga pages. Eh, yung WAKASAN komiks?

Virgilius, quite a screen name there. Well I think the good part of the movie is all about the action. It delivers a full of quantity but definately not quality. Oh well, maybe there’s a sequel for this coming up.

I personally love vintage toys. It’s fun finding the toys you had as a kid, or the ones you always wanted.
