A Dialogue With K

Really? A Crocs shop in Hong Kong?

I’ve seen them everyday, every single day so I guess they are good for the rainy weather — specially for the K-I-D-S. Even so, people will litter the streets with this colorful cartoonish footwear which I believe not my style at the moment. Eleven months back, I was kind of excited to buy one but I couldn’t even describe all the styles to wow my friends, to begin with.

I recalled there were few children had the accident that involves Crocs using the escalator. The girl’s foot was trapped and could not be released until fireman arrives. There had been at least two such incidents reported in the Chinese newspaper of Crocs shoes being caught in escalator. While they are cute, I have always wonder whether the shoes provide enough support since they are so soft and comfy.

Crocs accidentIn Sweden, it was reported that Crocs have been banned from Hospitals. That also happened in Singapore as well. The girl might have lost two of her toes.

The standard beach style costs HK$268 while the children’s version is HK$198. And if you think you want to buy a pair, please be extra vigilant when wearing them if you’re using the escalators – or better still, use the lift.

But despite the high comfort levels, I still can’t see myself wearing a pair of Crocs in the public. For those who are in Hong Kong who loves Crocs, ok take a deep breath, here’s the address. Crocs – HK G/F, 22 Wellington Street, Central, Hong Kong. Tel: 2810 0469.

arrrggghhh… that must have hurt so bad!!! I remember seeing an 8 year old in SM Manila playing with the escalator.. few moments later her hand was sucked at the bottom of the side rails… that was an awful sight. though a nurse, I almost fainted seeing how the child was horribly suffering from the pain…

Hi sulz, I think people love them because they can grab people’s attention. I didn’t really think they were incredibly dangerous but apparently they are.

Blue, that was horrible. So I guess, I’ll stick to my Havaianas.

To sell them in HK would seem like killing the business. Excuse my ignorance, but isn’t HK a bustling city? If you lose them while crossing the road wouldn’t that suck! I don’t understand… why not wear thongs (as in the footwear :P )?

Asha, ok help me set them free out of the sea.

Weng, HK people are devotedly “hooked” with latest trends, one can either wear something flattering to be seen. Fashion here is crazy, it’s their thing. If you have money, they buy it even if a dress looks crappy on them, (for as long as there’s a familiar big logo name). People will stand up in the line forever just to catch the latest hot goods. In one way or another, people have something to think about before they buy these crocs. Safety first, right?

Ginger, hahahaha would you believe they also sell them in the wet market, a copycat crocs, now that’s even more dangerous to wear. I didn’t actually hate it, but it looks nice on kids.

Inthesity, you’re right they’re quite expensive.

i used to work as a preschool teacher and it’s true that some of my students like wearing those crocs. it’s so shocking to know that it could get ur feet stuck in the escalators. but how? i wonder how it could get stuck though..

  11. K says:

Diane, probably because of the bulky crocy-head design, it got stucked between the moving escalator. They say it’s comfortable and they feel confident in wearing them. I even see women wearing ballet shoes. That’s painful to watch, aint they?

    I’ll stick with my converse.

Kaitlin, think wearing ulgy looking footwear can make a fashion statement. On my way home, I saw this old woman wearing crocs in bright yellow they look so huge because she’s so skinny. I was thinking, “oh gross she’s possessed”.

wouldn’t all flip flops/thongs dangerous on escalators then, how about be responsible parents and know what is going on…wear sneakers if you are going somewhere where the risk will be posed. everyone loves to hate something, i guess today its crocs since one parent couldn’t watch their kids make sure they got off safely. lol
