Songs for my Mother

Mother's Day 07

Well we all know that Mothers’ day is one of the most commercialized and widely celebrated holidays. It is the day when kids (like us) give presents to our Mom, expressing our hearts away as to how special she is for us. We give greeting cards, flowers and most of all, a mother could only have, LOVE.

Although I may not be celebrating this holiday with my Mother Kathleen because she’s not here in Hong Kong, I have opted to play these beautiful songs that I personally think would be more appropriate for this holiday. Emotional songs I know, but what I can do? Infact, this is the time to set the perfect mood for mothers day celebration, so a great idea is to play love songs for all the mothers. Enjoy!

She’s Always A Woman To Me - Billy Joel

She can lead you to love
She can take you or leave you
She can ask for the truth
But she’ll never believe
And she’ll take what you give her, as long as it’s free
Yeah, she steals like a thief
But she’s always a woman to me

Wild Flower (Let her cry for she’s a lady) - Skylark

Be careful how you touch her, for she’ll awaken
And sleep’s the only freedom that she knows
And when you walk into her eyes,
You won’t believe the way she’s always paying
For a debt she never owes and a silent wind still blows
That only she can hear and so she goes

Sandra - Barry Manilow

She says I swear I love my husband, I love my kids
I wanted to be like my mother
But if I hadn’t done it as soon as I did
Oh there might have been time to be me
For myself, for myself
There’s so many things that she wishes
She don’t even know what she’s missin’
And that’s how she knows that she missed

More Than You’ll Ever Know - Michael Ruff

I love you more than you’ll ever know
I love you more than you’ll ever see
More than my heart could ever show
I love you more than you’ll ever know

So what do you think is the best gift or a situation that you can give or let your mom experience? Why don’t give her the day off instead? Let her take it easy and relax while the rest of the family does the work? And to all of the women who are now a Mother, do you think it has changed your relationship with your own mom?

Happy Mother’s Day to all the Mom’s and goodluck to all the parents out there.

hey K! im back! That is so sweet of you bro. (the songs). I guess your mom would be teary eyed if she will actually read this entry of yours. Uhm, for me I guess I’ll just give my mom a big hug and kiss today, and then cook a little menu for dinner. Anyway, my dad will do the dating etc. after all, they are married for 35 years now.

    God Bless!

Thanks Tisha, glad you liked it.

Blue, and which means you’re 35 now? Just kidding. I don’t remember the last time I hugged my mother. I think it was when my Father Died, 7 yrs ago but I definately cried (yes I am a weeper) on her like last month about me complaining of being here in HK.

oh, if there’s a song i can associate with my mom it would be: YOU NEEDED ME and I CAN’T SAY GOODBYE TO YOU. She always makes me cry when she sings it because that’s how she is when she’s in love…

JC, your mother can sing? My mother can dance tho hehehe. The songs reminds me of somebody - damn I shouldn’t be listening to emo music, it gives me goosebumps whatever that is. …. “no matter how I tried, you’re such a part of me…”.

Meeya, was watching youtube videos when Ogie Alcasid singing “she’s a woman to me”. Although the lyrics of this song isn’t much about my Mother, I’d say it was beautifully written about the reality of a relationship, the positives and the negatives. Happy Mother’s Day to you and your mom.

K, thanks for the greetings. That is sweet and thoughtful of you. I love the song. It certainly brought smile to my face.

Hope one of your siblings or relatives takes your mother to a nearby cafe and have her listen to the songs that you picked out for her. She will definitely shed tears of joy the moment she hears it.

Belle, first time I heard it from Barry Manilow. When I heard the melody while reading the lyrics (I recorded myself singing that as well), I keep repeating it on my itunes. Now it’s spinning on my Shuffle.

I actually called this morning and they were like, “what Mother’s Day”? I don’t think people in Virac knows that. She was like, “so are you coming home?” Asa pa, kala mo ang dali-daling umuwi. Tapos sabi pa, “di taka na dangog, mag apod ka otro”. I heard my other brother yelling, “nanood kami ng DVD”. Panis. :)

    Happy Mother’s Day, Belle.

Nga eh, sabay sabi pa ng “i-cash mo na lang daw kasi Mother’s Day”. Sabi ko, “dibale na lang, tatawag ako after the Mother’s Day, para wala akong utang”. LOL.

Billy Joel’s She’s Always A Woman is a good choice of song ( I like it, personally). Belated happy mum’s day to your mum.

I bet your mum would like flowers. My mum does. :)

Thanks Kaitlin, she’s not actually into flowers but she would love going out with you for some shopping (during her early years) - window shopping, that is.
