Bubba GumpThe first franchise in China (Hong Kong) named after the fictitious and bizarrely successful shrimp farming company set up by Tom Hank’s character, Forrest Gump, in the movie of the same name. It serves great American seafood in a lively, colourful setting.

Shrimp steamed in beer to tender perfection and served with your choice of our aromatic Bubba’s garlic spice or secret recipe cajun spice. *photo from Bubba Gump*

I didn’t know the restaurant was already available in Hong Kong when my boss offered me a box of chocolate. It was obviously The Gump chocolate as the famous ‘Gumpism’ sayings is written on the box, “Mama always said… life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you’re gonna get!”.

Looking at their Menu, I can’t wait to order my favourite dish, a grilled Salmon and fresh vegetables (the one I usually ordered from Dan Ryan’s Chicago Grill in Pacific Place is served with squeeze of lemon) with a bit of garlic herb butter and capers and is served over Jasmine rice.

Sound’s delicious, ain’t it? And what’s more exciting? If Hong Kong is a city of jade during the day, it becomes a luminous pearl with a sea of lights twinkling in the streets after dark. The restaurant is located at one of the most popular attractions in Hong Kong, The Peak.

If only Range’s visit was planned ahead of time and didn’t have to leave early Thursday, I would have asked him and his wife to treat me for lunch. Thanks for the invitation, btw. I’ll look forward on your next visit.

Happy Weekend ya’ll.

Hi range, I knew you gonna enjoy the Tram ride going to the Peak. The place is one amongst the many tourist spot that I love & re-visited many times whenever I feel like one of them. It’s always obligatory to visit this place if you come to Hong Kong unless the weather is a “one fine day”.

JC, shrimp cooked in butter and served in your house is more palatable than the ones in the basket at Gump, I suspect. I know you can cook.

Ear, thanks for the info. But too late, I just did remember?

  7. Ah it is name after that company in the film Forrest Gump. Too bad we dont have it here but I so love shrimps!

  8. mmm… this post is making me hungry. it’s 1:40pm and I still haven’t had lunch.

  9. Sorry K, double comment. Don’t know what happened.

Charles, probably because Europeans dislike mostly Americans? I mean, the food thing.

Marni, 1:40pm is like nappy time huh? You’re early to rise for siesta.

Range, wordpress.com was acting up lately – some bugs and it happens usually during the weekends when they’re updating things to their server.

Shrimp? I want a Sichuan style please.

  11. sorry ha, pero i find bubba gump overrated. my sister can do a better version of their menu. :P though i do enjoy taunting the waiters with the “Stop Forrest Stop” sign. as soon as i see them running, i flip over to the “Run Forrest Run” side, mwehehehe!
