Whenever I see blog who post several times a day, I think it shows that they really are serious about blogging, generates traffic and drives reader loyalty who comes back daily to check your new posts. I’ve done that. But I also accept defeat sometimes that if I don’t write on a daily basis, my blogging will not be as successful as what the rule might say, right?

Ok, I’m being shadowy these days. The thing is, yesterday, I decided to disconnect my high-speed internet because I think I can’t afford to spend my money anymore on internet. I’m trying to save and keep up with my budget. What can I do if I only rely on myself? At the end, I’m the one going to suffer. I cut my spending on cigarettes, and now this internet. Don’t worry, I will still be blogging in case I find time to write at work while the boss is away. I know it’s not right but as soon as I can get extra cash to finance my internet usage, I may very much active again. This is not a goodbye.

So what’s my alternative? I’m on wireless. Yes, I am now silently connecting from someone 300 feet away from my building. If you live in Hong Kong, you may have dozens of neighbors whom you can find and get access on a wireless network considering apartment buildings here are so densed, your neighbors and even people on the street may be able to connect to these network. And I am one of them. I am aware that this is some form of network stealing but I do understand that people who connects to your wireless network might be able to slow down their Internet performance, view files on their computers and spread dangerous software. I don’t do that. If I can get a signal, then that’s great – then if I don’t, I would not be forcing myself to go online and be totally crazy to walk around my flat just to find the nearest wireless radio waves. I guess one day, if NANCY HOME, which is the person I am connected, finds out that someone is getting scooped at her connections, I’d be dead. I hope I am not pirating someones service. I don’t want the computer cops to either drag me out in cuffs, or sends me a huge bill for some service that I stumbled upon. I’m making it clear, I wouldn’t want to transact any sensitive info. I am not sure what the law is on using someone elses signal, but I’m sure that Nancy know how to set up a password to her connections but apparently, she isn’t doing that. Some of the neighbors signals are passworded, and some are not. So now that my own connection went poofed, I just jump for a couple hours to a wireless and disconnect. Shouldn’t I be worrying about using their signal even if it looks like as though I’m hacking the White House? I am not sure. Can they also see me? Do they know what I am doing? Can they also access on my computer? Well if they do have a clue with all of these then I won’t access my machine, right? I am not sure.

Anyway, a few days ago, we had our 3rd Team Building activity held at the Big Buddha in Lantau Islands. It was built in 1993 but it is now the newest Hong Kong attraction because it begun with an attractive 20-25 minutes cable car ride, I believe this is one of the world’s longest cable car, watching the scenery in a 360 degree panoramic view over the North Lantau Island, the South China Sea and the HK International Airport before finally seeing the magnificent BIG BUDDHA statue about 34 metres in height (I can’t remember because I was so busy with taking pictures). The Ngong Ping 360 is such a very beautiful place, it was my first time there. It was a journey of enlightenment. The view was breathtaking. What I learned from this team building is that the Buddha has two messages to the people who visit the place. If you look closely, he is sitting on a lotus position, the right hand means “Peace” while the left hand resting on the lap is said to be “Fulfilling Wishes”.

I went there at the back, up close and personal, meditate in a few minutes and made my wish. Walking on a 268 stairs to meet the BIG B, there was this feeling of sigh and relief. The Buddha did not deny that there is happiness in life, although he may not pointed out that it does not last forever, eventually everyone of us meets with this some kind of suffering. He said:

“There is happiness in life, happiness in friendship, happiness of a family, happiness in a healthy body and mind, …but when one loses them, there is suffering.”

If we look deeply in our hearts, other things we suffer are from being with those we dislike, being apart from those we love, not getting what we want, all kinds of problems and disappointments that are unavoidable. But life is such. We have to live life to the fullest, enjoy it & embrace it.

And btw, Nancy wherever/whoever you are, thank you for the wireless connection. I will be meeting you if I go online again. You are my lifesaver for making this post possible.

hope you’re well my dears! tlc!

  2. i guess, all is fair in love and wireless :) i would like to think that nancy purposely does not password-protect her connection because she’s such a nice lady and would like to willingly share her high-speed good fortune with those who are in need. :) she’ll go to buddha’s heaven for that :)

  3. Hey, everybody’s been there so don’t worry.

I find WiFi too slow. Even then, we get free cable internet in our apartment and it is very slow. Before I used to be at the highest cable speed available. Now, I think I am at the slowest. Anyways, I got a hard time being faster than 100kbs.

    Regular posting.

The thing is that I spent a month without posting and my technorati rating still went up. My daily visits dropped from 1000 to 500. I am slowly creeping up again, but it is going to take a while.

    Blogs smogs. Whatever.

Sometimes you need to live your life.

K, I’ll teach you how to be “bo chap” okay?

  5. I’m WIFI-ed, quick access! I think the internet there is quite expensive compared here in Pinas.

I also don’t post regularly because of a bunch of assignments, projects and stuffs related to academic life.

Don’t worry K, we’re still here to support you!

  6. I used to have that same feeling before but it is actually nice to just post twice or three times a week so some of your readers wouldnt miss a thing.

With the internet thingy that is quite a wise thing to do. If you travel around Oslo with a car. You can discover that there are a lot of wireless sources without any protection.

    hi k,

I understand the “pressure” that is on you on not being able to blog regularly. You know what, don’t be hard on yourself, take your time. In the meantime, I’ll content myself in browsing your old blogs.

    So long! :-)

  8. its the quality of the post that you need to watch out for, my love. the hell with ratings and traffic. we write primarily for ourselves right? as for the wi-fi thingy, para kang naka-jumper sa meralco ganon? hahahaha! i hope she doesnt get to read this post. you just practically confessed. hahahaha! mis ya, k!

  9. And that’s why my wireless encryption key is so long and strong.
I am sorry you have to cut your connection but i do understand you perfectly and i would have done the same probably….
Thing is,i can’t stay without internet and i can’t borrow band from my neighbors because i would feel bad.
You can ask one of your neighbors if they are willing to share their connection with you in exchange for a small fee or a service.
Ok…is a bit off the line but you could give a try.

Traffic… K,you have your people who are reading your blog and are following your daily life through your writings. It doesn’t have to be daily blogging o let them know how your wheels are spinning.
Count on this people…do not count on the traffic.

  10. k!!! visit my blog. it’s our 2nd anniversary and i sang for him! 2 years na kami naglolokohan! hahahaha!

  11. K!

your post reminded me of the era where nakaw kuryente was rampant in Manila. People will connect jumper wires to the main cable of Meralco to get free electricity. Now it’s free internet! why don’t you hang out in Starbucks or Gloria Jean’s and use their wireless?

On the Big Buddha in Lantau- may cable car na doon? When I went there we had to take the mini bus and climb the stairs!!!

  12. k, what does SING means?

Yup, Odd is a weird name but it is actually a normal Norwegian name

  13. Cheh – hahaha ok pa naman, hindi pa ako nahahanap ni Nancy hanggang ngayon, minsan wala sya, minsan naman patay-patay pero kailangan hindi magreklamo para masaya dahil libre.

Meeya – she’s really such a nice girl, up until now, the connections gives me good vibes, well off peak hours shows more faster. Probably she doesn’t turn it off, I still can get powerful waves during the late hours. I’m keeping it light, not showing the obvious otherwise goodbye masasayang oras.

Range – it’s my first using the wireless. I had no clue my laptop has its function. Consider myself a very lucky guy at this moment but I won’t be using this for a long time, it makes me feel guilty most of the day.

Asha – what is a BO CHAP? I hope it’s not a bad karma for me. hahaha.

JV – It’s not that I lost my interest in blogging these days, just too tight for the pocket – I’ll recover soon and will post as normal (which is daily). BTW, I’m starting to feel like this is fun, no pressure at all. Thank you.

Charles – that’s true. Once or twice a week of blogging won’t hurt anyone of you. I treasure everyone who visits here and I recalled, I have been blogging for many years now, I should know that huh? Thanks, I’ll take your great advice.

Carmary – thanks for the great visit. Sometimes there’s this feeling of being “obligated” just for the sake of posting. I understand people doesn’t need to read your post everyday, it’s rather how and when we feel like so I believe it won’t affect my blogging rituals. Here’s hoping that you enjoy the rest of my old posts. Click some of my music links, it will give you a little entertainment, at least.

JC – ‘nabi mo. But I don’t take advantage naman. I seldom browse, I have limited access kasi sa work, can’t even think of proper way to blog. Pero sige, hanggang nakaka-chamba pa sa wireless, I’ll keep on posting. Happy Anniversary na rin sainyong dalawa. I enjoyed your “singing”. You’re a PRO.

Carol“Traffic… K,you have your people who are reading your blog and are following your daily life through your writings. It doesn’t have to be daily blogging o let them know how your wheels are spinning. Count on this people…do not count on the traffic”. Totally agree. I think I made a post about getting tons of traffics but end of the day, the loyal people of this blog that matters the most. Thanks for the thoughts.

Duke – asa ka pa. The internet cafe has wi-fi but it’s not for free. Even if you get the signals, you still unable to connect, walang dayaan ang mga cafe’ dito. Masyadong mahigpit si Li Ka Shing (PCCW) sa mga nakaw-linya, hahahaha. Panis. On Big B: the cable car does not reached at the Peak of the Buddha mountain, they made it a bit of a park there before you finally set your feet to walk unto the hundred steps. They built some kiosk, theatres and food houses sa entrance, it’s really nice dahil the Cable Car is really big, mga 17 capacity. All in all, the beauty of Hong Kong is not just about spending in shopping malls, the scenery overlooking the South China Sea and the Airport is magnificent. Ang ganda talaga. Halika dito umupo tayong naka lotus position.

Charles – hahaha what I meant was, if you are in a foreign land, people always think that Filipinos can sing, (well we all can, right?) and that’s a nice consolation to the already “damaged” reputation about the “meaning of Filipinos”. Let’s just show these people that we are not ALL like that. I think we can still change it, we have to start changing it from ourselves first.

  14. wow i wish i had those kinda neighbors. lol.

  15. Dez, so far Nancy still loves me, I am still ’stealing’ her connections up until now. Maybe she’s simply super-rich, so ok lang siguro sa kanya. ;)
