What’s on your desk?
I was sitting here listening to my iTunes music when I was looking at my desk, and I have to say, this is what’s on my desk, my favourite part of the house. Everything you see here down to the tiny pieces of ‘craps’ has some small story behind it. I’ve catalogued anything that I’ve seen so that in case I find myself bored I can one day look a tiny snapshot of my life. But anyways, if you have time, you can also show me yours sometimes.
1. Postcard from Antalya, Turkey – a blog friend Duke sent me this postcard last June where she and her hubby came back from a fishing trip down at the Mediterranean where they hired one of the boats seen in the postcards. It’s a lovely postcard that captures the beautiful Antalya harbour. I would say, after looking at it for a few seconds, I had dreamt like I’d stroll along the seaside promenade watching the big cruisers as well as the small fisher boats and along the sides where the fish restaurants are probably located. BTW, two (2) postcards from Greece that Sha sent me, is on my door-fridge.
2. Alleby IKEA alarm Clock – Alarm clocks are bad. Waking up abruptly by the sound of an alarm clock is an inherently unnatural thing to do. Sometimes you can wake up after 8 hours and feel like crap. I never really uses it for a long time since I’ve always tried throwing it away when it alarms. The whole point is that the first alarm should be so quiet that it will only wake you up if you’re in “light” sleep, like a whisper in your ear. But this alarm doesn’t make that process, so I stick on my Nokia alarm which wakes me up in “light” tone and leaves me feeling more refreshed than waking up in “deep” sleep.
3. NEC Speakers – I’ve been using this tiny speakers with subwoofers surround sound which is good for laptops and for my iPod. I know that this is not anymore popular but it still is leaving me breathless during the evenings although I’m tempted to have a high affordable ones from Altec Lansing, I still enjoy NEC’s smoothness.
4. Water Plant – my little desk feng-shui. Water plants gives off an earthy comfortable energy that everyone can relate to. It’s usually good to put plants for business, I don’t know if this works in my desk, but then it adds something “green” in my desk.
5. Scented candles from White Barns – a gift from a friend Jayne. She gave me two boxes of these and the other is a feng shui candles (metal, water, wood, fire, earth) combinations of scents. It burns approximately 15hours so it helps me put to sleep easily.
6. BENCH body spray – BENCH is my favourite brand whenever I visit the malls in the Philippines. I could never leave Manila without buying anything from this shop. I bought the spray in a local store in Central for about $40 bucks (sucker!). It smells really cool but I only use it as a room spray.
7. NOKIA N70 – my 4th mobile phone purchased from Nokia. Nothing fancy but it’s very useful as instant camera. I can send pictures via bluetooth to my laptop.
8. Cellphone stand – a gift from my Boss, translucent green. See, she’s been so nice to me.
9. Tag Heuer Automatic Chrono watch – a gift from me for myself on my birthday 2 years ago. It’s a rugged and masculine in premium grade steel. Unidirectional rotating polished steel bezel with engraved markers frames the textured blue dial three subdials, luminous hands and hour markers, a tachometer outer ring. Now, it has a few tiny scratches which I think makes it look more “rugged” to pair this for any clothes to wear.
10. Bracelets – from Tifanny & Co. and cheap silver ones from Tsim Sha Tsui shop. I love anything silver or any other ‘friendship bands’.
11. Three (3) storage holder round box – from South Horizons which I bought around HK$10 where I stored all my jewelries, key chains, laptop wires, etc.
12. Mouse Pad – IKEA brown leather. I never really uses my laptop’s touchpad.
13. Optical Mouse – it’s a tiny mouse pad that I’ve been using for quite sometime now. I still opt for the wireless but it doesn’t make any difference anyways.
14. IBM Thinkpad Notebook T Series – I had this baby (I named it “no name”) for a year and a half now. It’s still working very good and it’s the reason why I keep on blogging. Features: Integrated bluetooth, high-resolution, thin-film transistor (TFT) display provides clear and brilliant text and graphics with good functions.
15. Webcam Clip – So cheap but too clear. I’m not really a big fan of webcams. I only use these when I’m online chatting with my family.
16. Thai Wooden Doll – from Thailand, a gift from Isay. It’s a miniature of that Thai lady that welcomes everyone who enters in my flat. “Sawasdee”. I use it to hang my silver necklaces.
17. Cheap silver necklaces – from the cheap market nearby. Sha sent me this dot-eye blue glass pendant from Greece, it says it’s for goodluck and also my favourite turquoise stone necklace for summer which I bought for HK$50. I do ask for a bargain really.
18. Lava Motion Lamp – I bought it across the road from near I live. It looks great when you turn off all the lights, it illuminates the whole place. The coolest thing about motion lamps, of course, is that they produce insoluble blobs that rise and fall in the lamp’s “globe” on their own. Even after all these years, people are still buying motion lamps because it’s enjoyable to watch.
19. 4th Generation iPod - even if it’s already old, I mean “not very”, infact, I still enjoy a good portion of my 40GB storage capacity. And even if that little black address book are so last millennium, I feel this is by far, my perfect companion. I can shuffle my way through a lot of songs that lets me play my music for up to 12 hours on a single battery charge. So far I have at least 1403 songs, worth playing for 4 days. Besides, the fun part is that, I can use the backface as my instant mirror.
20. Bali Home Furnitures Book – I’m a fan!
21. Pocket PC iPaq – a give-away when I actually signed up for my Broadband connections. I’ve never used it for quite a long time. I use it to store addresses and credit card spendings. But not anymore a fan of using its pen to tap the screen.
22. Me in Framestand – I was drunk when my nephew took this picture 2 Christmases ago infront of the gate of my brother’s building where he lives. I have no idea why I used this picture for my desk. Nothing special. Oh, the hat made me looked different I think.
23. Post-it paper – A very important account number. My landlord’s bank account so I would not forget the deadline for paying my rent. How pathetic.
24. iPod In-Ear Headphones – nothing special, it costs me HK$180 because this headphone have a great sound quality and bass response, and come with three different sized caps to ensure the headphones fit comfortably and securely in your ear.
25. Utility bills – who wants it?
Have a great Weekend folks!

how neat! as in neat na clean and neat na cool!
i have nothing on my desk kasi if i leave anything on it, it’s guaranteed to disappear due to my daughter’s ever questing hands.
Posted 3 years, 3 months agoWow! I agree with meeya. Your esk is so neat. Mine is empty and so boring. I only have a pathetic pen holder and the pc itself!
I’m intrigued with that Bali Home Furniture Book. Where do you get them?
Posted 3 years, 3 months agoYour desk is so neat!–better than what i can say for mine! Bench body spray!! Love that stuff! I was so happy when Bench opened a branch out here!
Posted 3 years, 3 months agoYes K, neat desk you have and the wooden doll looks pretty.
Posted 3 years, 3 months agoSpace is at a premium in HK. My desk is a giant contraption from Ikea. I have 3 computers on it with 3 lcd screens. It takes up a good portion of my office. I have about 3 lamps on it, pens, headsets, ipod, atlec lansing speakers, phone, an old dvd burner. Underneath my desk I have a HP Enterprise 4000 series laser color printer, scanner, fax, two chairs because my desk has actually space for two workstations, some bamboo plants, camera, my xbox360 remote, dvd-rs of all my recent movies, some books that I plan to read over the next few weeks.
Posted 3 years, 3 months agoOoooh! Nice desk you have there K! I’m beginning to feel the ambience in your apartment. I also have a water plant in my desk, the flowing water thingy. Sometimes, when I’m doing or reading something, the sound of the flowing water puts me to sleep.
A few years back, my mom bought me a handicrafted tropical fish motion lamp, the one with music. But I never used it at all. Speaking of post-its, I’ve been using them for quite a long time. I’m very forgetful these days. In fact, I also have a whiteboard, in case if I forgot to look at the daily things to do in the post its. Hayyy, I’m really getting old.
Posted 3 years, 3 months agogod, i want to say it (being an obssessive-compulsive freak) but everyone has already said it! Damn! Your desk is soooo neat!!!! Although, the Fab 5 will kill you for that lava lamp on your asian-inspired desk-slash-vignette. I missed you, k!!!!
Posted 3 years, 3 months agoHahah Meeya, I totally agree about having kids in the house. But I don’t really mind my nephews coming to my flat and use it as a playground unless no one touches my laptop, I’d be fine. I only hope my desk sits infront of a window. My flat is rather too small and I have many cluttered stuff around. I need a yaya for the other chores, that is laundrying.
Posted 3 years, 3 months ago“I’m intrigued with that Bali Home Furniture Book.”
DYMOCKS. I’ve been a constant visitor to these book store and you can easily find me standing at the Architectures shelves flippin thru the gardening, houses, furnitures mostly minimalist houses & the beautiful Bali houses.
I wanted my dream house to look like that, tropical balinese infront of the ocean on top of a hill. Asteg diba?
Posted 3 years, 3 months agoI’d rather find it weird that we don’t have BENCH shops here considering Manila is just right “across the pacific”, although few pinoy shops sells items from BENCH, unfortunately their collections are considered rubbish.
Posted 3 years, 3 months agoSawasdee, Asha. I usually treasure a keepsake from friends. Considered myself a ‘ratpack’. I’m also a fan of the Tibetan BUDDHA head handmade statue or the one from India. I want everything like that in case I built my dream house.
Posted 3 years, 3 months agoI can picture yourself a “geek” person.
But true about HK. It’s great to see every residential is high rise in Hong Kong but honestly, I live in a box but aside from the lack of space, the quality of some residential flats ain’t that bad. Mine is too small, a bachelor’s flat would cost me 30% of my monthly salary. Then again, it’s very convenient to anything close to a train station, shopping, public, recreation, education facilities so close even the services are available within 5mins of where I live and probably not found in most city around the world. However as you can say it does have its drawbacks, it’s over-dense but it’s a place with so much to love and hate at the same time. I’ve lived here for quite a while now and I can pretty much understand that.
Posted 3 years, 3 months agoI’m no fan of the post-it really as I tend to forget everything written on it. I moved this desk during my blog “hiatus”. I do these every once in a while to get the feel of the “chi” in the flat. I don’t know what you expect in a tiny flat, but avoiding the cluttered objects can make it look bigger.
My yaya used to take care of the plants from my former apartment dahil may maliit na terrace but now that I moved to a smaller apartment, plants can be very suffocating.
But oh, one that is missing in my apartment is a big cabinet, at least a nice storage for my chinelas. I hate the humidity here so major cleaning every week is rather a must.
Posted 3 years, 3 months agoI missed you, k!!!!
Ouch. Seriously, ouch that’s sweet. I’ll make it up to you – been absent most of these days in all the blogs I frequent.
Mali ba yung lava lamp sa desk? Bahala na sya basta may ilaw. Ala kasi akong lampshade hehehe.
Posted 3 years, 3 months agoWow. So tidy!
My desk is under a mound of paper, I need a homing device to find my laptop sometimes!
Posted 3 years, 3 months agoI’ve put away the ashtray and the coffee mug somewhere so it actually turned out something like that hehehe.
Share what’s on your table, Pep.
Posted 3 years, 3 months agoMan,it will take me a while to order my desk for a shot and it will be too filled up with gadgets to be able to see something.
Posted 3 years, 3 months agoYour desk is so clean and ordered.Nice!
Man, you are tidy! My desk has stuff going back years!
Posted 3 years, 3 months agoWow.. I have coffee cups, stacks of recordable cds and dvds, papers, notbooks.. I really have to ask though, how many power strips or extensions do you have there??
Posted 3 years, 3 months agoOK, you asked for it. Aside from the paper mountain, I have: a vase of lillies, a vase of assorted flowers, a bunch of DVD’s, pencils, Canon A620, iPod, car keys, peroxide for my hair, my kickboxing blackbelt, assorted PC cables, my K750i, a wallet (empty), a Me-To-You cuddly bear, straws, play-doh and silica-gel (??). Above my desk on the wall is a huge reproduction of Salvador Dali’s Christ of St John on the Cross.
Posted 3 years, 3 months agoi am envious of how neat your desk looks! my desk both at home and at work are absolute fire hazards. gah.
Posted 3 years, 3 months agoHi K!
I remembered what model my desk is. It’s the Galant from Ikea. Yeah, I might be a bit computer savvy, but that’s because I studied Computer Science in university. One good thing though, I don’t play any video games on my computer. I have an XBOX360 to do that and I haven’t used it since April.
Other than that, all is well.
Posted 3 years, 3 months agoCan I have the stuff No. 16? Pwedeng buhayin yan kung gabi! Ching!
Posted 3 years, 3 months agoCarol, I can imagine your desk. Hahaha, I want, one day to have all those gadgets, XBOX in a large desk, which includes flat plasma screen, etc.
My desk is nothing in it but rubbish huh? Hey, for as long as my broadband is on, I’m ok with it.
Posted 3 years, 2 months agoA vintage desk you mean Jack? The problem with my desk is that it’s too “low”, I have a hard time sitting in a business like position. It’s actually a drawer desk for my t-shirts but since I downsized to fit other stuff in my flat, I didn’t actually choose a better desk.
Posted 3 years, 2 months agoI think I have few extensions, for my lava lamp, speakers, laptop, broadband (I don’t have a router for wireless) and for my iPod. I hate the wires, if you want to see the back/under the desk, the spaghettit wires are cramming with each other.
Posted 3 years, 2 months ago“…a Me-To-Yo cuddly bear, straws, play-doh and silica-gel (??).”
What are those? Now I’m curious. Your kickboxing gloves suppose to be in your desk too? Ahhh, to remind yourself incase you stayed online all day and forget your training.
Posted 3 years, 2 months agoHahaha dez, just make sure your desk always equipped with the fire extinguisher in case fire occurred if you’re staying online 24/7.
Posted 3 years, 2 months agoNo wonder you have all the gadgets. I’ve been thinking of that XBOX but the problem is, I don’t play “video games” (not even on my laptop).
The nice tables at IKEA have designs for tiny rooms/apartment that’s why I like to go there and look for the ideal desk but I’ve seen your Vlog and you really have a neat desk there.
Posted 3 years, 2 months agoSalbahe! Hahaha.
Posted 3 years, 2 months agoIf i arrange it nice and free up the space,i will have one cool desk.My desk needs defragmentation.Lmao!
Posted 3 years, 2 months agoBut as Jason,i also have coffee cups all over, sticky notes, calendars, pens(yes i still use those because i have memory problems),…
And talk about cables…oh i’ve got so many of them.
Yeah thanks, I wonder if it will fit in my new place. Ah well, no biggy, change is life. Life is change.
Posted 3 years, 2 months agoIt’s a modern desk, K, but I have crap from months ago buried under piles of paper! But I would seriously look at your ergonomics. Better to spend a few dollars now and fix it than have serious, expensive back problems later in life. I really am serious.
Posted 3 years, 2 months agoHaha, K!
OK, a Me-To-Yo cuddly bear – a lovely, tiny, grey bear.
Straws – don’t know why they were there, for the kids drinks I guess.
Play-doh – so that the kids can mold silly shapes, and get it all sticky on the carpet!
Silica-gel – I think this came out of packaging to keep the new shoes I’d bought nice and free from moisture.
My belt was due to the fact that I had arrived from k.boxing that night.
Talk to you soon, a mi amigo.
Posted 3 years, 2 months agoMy son has a red lava lamp like yours! Same company
I believe. Hey, have you had to change the light bulb on that thing yet? If the glass part unscrews off, ours is on hard enough that I’m afraid I’ll break trying to find out. You know how it opens? Ours looks like its from ‘Lava Motion’.
Thanks!
Posted 2 years, 9 months agoI replaced the bulb twice, it was very easy. Remove the bottle out from the stand holder, loosen the bulb from inside and presto – it’s like replacing a bulb from your lampshade as easy as that.
