coCommenting makes me HOT
Are you a serious commenter? Do you keep a conversation with a regular blogger? Do you comment only because it’s a must?
We treat ourselves differently and we only comment as we pleased but even so, a comment is what keeps us blogging, linking to other blogs, leaving our URL links to comments because everyone wants an audience. We promote our own blog, don’t we all?
Introducing, coComment. If you have blogs, photo sharing services, news sites, you name it: more and more sites let readers comment on what they read and see.
I’ve been using coComment since I started with my wp.com and I have been so excited sharing this to many of you. I sometimes think that a conversation is one of the best tool to know each other as a blogger, as a person or an individual. I always want to track all my comments on many blogs so I can go back to them and leave my reply. I can guarantee that you may not lose anyone in your comment box. At the same time, it tracks your comments very fast. As a result, it creates a great conversation with fellow coCommenter in respond to what you wrote.

I just started using it, after seeing Jack yan use it. I’m still seeing how it works, it looks pretty useful, so I’ll keep it I think. It is also effortless to use, has a nifty Firefox extension.
Yeah, how does it actually work? I went in.. but got lost. And if i still don’t get it after you explaining the second time, i give up. I’m like that. Never trying hard. Bleargh. Am i complaining? Don’t frown at me.
Funny that’s the same question when I first saw the service. I played along with it. If you are using Firefox, it’s very easy. Download it, Register your account, Log-in to coComment, and you will see a blue “CO” (means you’re logged-in) icon at the right-bottom corner of your browser. Then go to your blog, try replying to any comments and right next to your “send” comment, you’ll see a coCo button next to it. Fill a tag name in that box that best describes your entry. Then click “send”. If you want to see what’s in that CO box, click it and fill in what’s missing.

Hi Max, I thought about that at first too, I was like what are these people doing? But when I started using it, it’s like making a long thread on all of your comments and it becomes a conversation. Bwahaha Asha, there’s no obligation there. I thought if you have no time doing nothing and or often spend time browsing around like me, this is for you. I find it hard tho to enable my coCo on blogger since most of the comment box appeared to be a “pop-up” type, I hardly able to really use it with others. Infact, I use it the hard way and I’m sure I keep all my comments from your blog via this service. Read on the #4 comments I made for Duke or #9 made by Jack Yan. If its not up to your par, forget it cuz life is already complicated, I don’t want you to be obligated and me being responsible if you screw it up.
Speaking of Haloscan, cocomment won’t work on it. No it’s different. It doesn’t need to be installed in your BLOG, it magically added a button in your comment box like a little angel next to the “send” button helplessly begging for a chicharon saying “feed me, feed me”.
As for me, I still find people leaving comments on my OLD posts and I can easily reply to them because of coComment, it tracks down all your incoming (or whoever responded) to one of your old posts. So now you wonder why I reply to each one of you? Some people would say I’m nuts.

Cocomment is just another plug-in that drain load time in MY opinion. It also seems a little buggy.

I understand, that’s another drawback with the coCo, also I find it hard with the blogger’s/Haloscan commenting POP-ups. Despite of, I think that it becomes part of my daily routine – it really is rather fun to use to track all my comments no matter where you write them. Then again, this service may be useful if everyone else is doing it, so I’m spreading the word for people who are interested.

I, like many other people have problems keeping track of all the webpages I’d like to hop back to sometimes. I don’t have enough browser bar space and I never use my bookmarks folder in FF. I’m just starting to get around to using RSS feeds, but in the meantime, coCo seems like a cool way to keep track of everything.

But true, coComment is the easy way to track your comments. One way or another, it let us exchange words and make a conversation with anyone, that’s why you see me keep coming back.

Exactomento, Ms Pari – replying to a comment is something ‘obligatory’ to my blogging. Perhaps the title of this blog speaks for itself. I chose to do these cuz I believe it is the recipe of having a personal blog about life. It’s like how you cook. I put garnish with smiles and serve with unselfishness and cheerfulness.

K, I picked up your blog through cocomments. The tag drew my attention in the tag cloud. I’ve had an account on cocoment for a while, but for some reason the log in would not work until today. So I finally get to test it with some other people who use cocomment. Thanks for the post and the highlight in cocomment to your blog.

And you’re right, there were several usability issues of the service before, like it doesn’t work everywhere for you, it’s the lack of instructions. I too, had a hard time using it the first few months where bookmarklet feature is concerned. I sometimes forget to hit the coComment befofre posting my comment. Since a browser plugin/extension was created, I think it’s working well. Thanks John.
I got it Jack, the comment was held for moderation, I don’t know why – must be my “clicking” syndrome as I normally would click through my Dashboard and tick an empty box and enabled the wrong button. My bad.

Good afternoon, K. I didn’t see your post no. 36 till I spotted it in coComment just now. I met the other Jack through coComment and posted there. It’s unusual to find someone with this name who is aged between, say, 18 and 35. You usually find Jacks who are either WWII veterans or little kids.

K, thanks for being so supportive, its good to see cocomment working in action. I see that additional comments were added in my cocomment over night. But of course not everyone’s on the blog, as some people are not using cocomment.
I had an idea; I noticed that we have different usernames in cocomment than on the blog. Mine is bostonmarketing rather than John as I referenced on this blog. I am sure that the majority of people will pick up comments when they return to cocomment. But I was thinking wouldn’t it be great if cocomment allowed you to also direct a comment to a particular user.
Now you might say, well that’s email. It is, but the idea behind cocomment is facilitating better interaction. Unless cocomment already has a feature where any updates to a comment discussion is emailed to a user. Have not seen that. However, I think it would be good if other users could highlight other users in particular, and cocomment would put emphasis on that message beyond the other comments its tracking for the day.
I know you have a lot of conversations in cocomment would that help with you tracking conversations?
Hey, I suppose a quick way is to tag conversations with the name of the person you are chatting with.

John, earlier, your post initially only appeared in coComment because K hadn’t approved it here. K eventually remedied that so your post appears above as you had intended.
Prior to that approval, there were three consecutive posts you made which did not get to the blogs you had commented on, and appeared only in coComment, when I checked on your list. I was worried that there was a set-up glitch.
It appears all is well now, if the above postings are an indication, so don’t worry.
John, a few folks do tag their conversations with the person’s name, so your technique would be perfectly acceptable. I really swear by the service: it makes life a lot easier and I can readily locate dialogues that I have participated in.
On message no. 54, John, I meant there were two consecutive posts—at Paul’s site and here. At Paul’s site, your comment was held for approval, too, so (24 hours ago) it looked like it hadn’t got through. (It is through now.) Anyway, it’s all a moot point as we’ve worked out that all is well with your set-up.
Nice input there, John. I signed up on CoComment just to experiment on how it is gonna help me. It’s for the reason of not having an easy way to keep track of what I said and where I leave comments on various blogs. While coCommenters are also notified so as the conversation continues, you do not have to go back to the original post to find the latest comment.
However, the core idea is a great one, and I would very much like to view all of my comments, and other bloggers’ comments, on one centralized page. I understand there are several pros and cons behind the service but using coComment isn’t a bad thing. The more comments you have, the more you gain friends & the more people encouraged to respond to what readers actually say about your posts.
I think it works for the majority of bloggers with unknown blogs like mine but to live out my urge to be part of the conversation on other people’s blog, by leaving comments. If your blog is in the center of gravity, people still leave comments to your blog so I don’t think you have an option there as to whether you want your comments published in one placed.
OMG, I don’t know if I’m saying it right, correct me if I’m wrong. Paging Jack Yan.
Apologies on the comment MODERATION setup. Since I have been getting spams every each an hour, I tried enabling the first time commenter to be put on moderation. However, moderating comments is a pain in the behind for me as I do not wish to be logging-in like every minute just to check on the comment inbox waiting to be approved.
All is back to normal now, I still have my Akismet plugin on to catch any possible spams. It will never really go away, I’m sure.
I actually haven’t tried that tagging on person’s name. I think that’s a great idea since many coCommenter nowadays really do check on who’s placing on TOP of the list and who’s not. I’m sure there will always be negative criticism if you’re unexpectedly getting the highest number of comments.
As for me, I’m just having fun really, besides its free.
That’s another problem Jack, sometimes I doubled the posting on coComment by just refreshing my browser in getting rid of the ‘cookies’. I still do use the hard way of clicking the bookmarklet by ignoring the magical button next to the “send” button of the comment box.
I think moderation is important, K, so I vote to leave it on. You just never know what can get through.
I know Chrono Cracker did get criticism for having his own name as a tag, but I have seen a few people use my name.
Like you, K, I use the bookmarklet. That way, if a post I make is not worthy of being logged, I don’t use coCo.
You’re right, just today a spam can still get through and Akismet failed to caught the sucker.

Hi K, thanks so much, I think you are right cocomment is a great service. Till this point in time I was using del.icio.us. that’s a great tagging system. However I think cocomment is easier to use for tracking comments.
Jack, ah that makes sense I think by the time I’d returned to the blog K had already posted my comments.
Talking of comment moderation, integrating catchpa into a blog is one of the best ways to cut down on comment spam. I’ve done this on my personal blog and my work blog. comment spam disappeared on my work blog. And now I only get one or two on my personal blog..
That’s a nice plugin John. Apparently my wp.com is not customizable so there’s no way I can make use of the catchpa plugin. However, Akismet Spam plugin has already been installed in all wp.com platform so I’m pretty sure it’s working well in this blog. Thanks for the input.
Ah, forgot to use the cocomment booklet, I think I will switch to firefox!
John I find coComment work easier on Firefox. Like you, I do prefer the bookmarklet than the ‘buttonize’ box on comments. Play along with it.
Without the firefox extension I don’t know if it would be worth it really.
There are plenty of other things like del.ic.ious that let you tag if you can be bothered with the whole bookmarklet thing but most of the time its just a few clicks too far. I’ve got the Del.ic.ious bookmarklet on my Firebox toolbar and its *still* too much work to bother with!
Especially since you can’t really get away with just having no tags like you can with coComment.
I still consider coCo as "too much" everytime I reply to comments. There are times that it isn't working so it forced me to use the bookmarklet. But it's always FUN whenever I reply or post comments,same thing like leaving your url links to every blog. It's more personalized than a gimmick really, at least for me.Thanks Karl. John, I decided to use moderation, after a few readers felt that captcha was preventing feedback. They may have been right, as I have noticed my comment count go up. But that could simply be to do with my blog becoming more popular.

Jack, I tried enabling my moderation on comments however I find it a little confusing to approved each comments since Akismet also caught spam comments. I almost got few comments deleted before just because I hit the DELETE ALL option that goes into the Spam comments. I don’t know, I just think I’m ok without the moderation.

I think you’re OK without moderation, K, because of Akismet. I was just saying that for me, Blogger has no way to prevent spam and I need moderation. It doesn’t take long for spammers and spambots to find a vulnerable, open blog.
Believe it or not, my spams are mostly sex-related stuff. Remember my old posts regarding spams & penis enlargement? It never goes away. The latest wp.com spams caught by Akismet were mostly from the hottmail(s) with an “s” address.
K, I was just thinking what happens if you forget to use the bookmark, and you are using i.e. I wonder if there should be a way in cocomment to go back and add a comment listing in cocomment without re-entering the text?
Ah, I forgot again, this a great example of adding later in cocomment.
Yes, John: what you do is do a Control-A of your text, then use the bookmarklet. The pop-up window that comes up (where you fill in your tags) has an ‘Add’ button instead of the usual ‘OK’. Just click ‘Add’ and it will get added to coComment. You can then cancel the post on the blog itself.
Sorry, just to be clear, I mean that you enter your text in the blog comment box first, then do the Control-A, then click the bookmarklet, etc.
Jack, do you always have to use control-A? I was not using control-A and my text was transferred into cocomment anyway.
Ah, I just tried that with this post, and the window popped up automatically, ha ha, before I the window was not appearing and I had to click on the cocomment button below. (it appears when you click on the bookmarklet.)

Sorry K, it appears that when select control-A and try to click the say it button on this blog, the text is transferred to cocomment but does not save within the blog.
I usually highligthened my comments before I click on the coCo bookmarklet then filling the Tags. Now, I’m actually not bothered on tags, since I simply follow what you said, I put my name into the tag box, hassle-free.
That’s right Jack. I kind of using the bookmarklet now since it always give me a “you are not signed in at coComment” whenever I use the button next to the send comment. It doesn’t go smoothly thru my conversation lists. There must be something wrong with the plugin since I always encounter the same problem before.
That’s right. Since you have already installed the plugin in your browser, the coCo button would appear automatically next to the Send Comment button to make a comment. What I’m doing is (I know its kind of a hassle), before you actually write a comment, (while already logged-in to coCo) refresh your browser and press the STOP just before the the coCo box appear next to the Send Comment. Then after sending your comment highlight them and use the bookmarklet.
It always happen to me many times, it says comment has been sent to coCo but not actually sending the comments to a blog. If it happens, I’ll follow the old ways, as Jack explained. Or maybe try not to log-in to coComment first so you won’t be bugged off by the coCo button appearing on the send comment.
I really like coCo, it’s very useful, especially if you want to track your comments made on different blogs without having to visit them all the time. I just started using it, I think I saw a comment on Robert Scoble’s blog about it, when he had a screenshot of his blog traffic.
It’s also useful because some comments can lead to interesting posts, and if you don’t remember where or what you posted, it gets confusing quickly.
John, I only use Control-A if my comment did not get captured at coComment. Otherwise, I submit as normal. But with computer glitches here and there, someone did suggest on one blog that they always copied the text, in case the submission process crashed and they lost their message.
Jack, ah, now I get it, you are saying use Control-A if coCo failed to capture the text, so you can submit the text after submiting a comment to a blog. That makes sense thanks!

That’s great range, it’s always fun to leave comments – it makes me think that it helps people to really share ideas and keep the conversation going once you participate in the thread. There’s no deadline to how many times you want to leave your comments. People who don’t blog don’t realize the strong friendships you can develop via blogging and coCommenting.

Not a problem, John. These little techniques aren’t usually pushed by the coComment chaps, and if they are on the coComment site, then I haven’t seen them! They are just things I learned over the time I have been using the application. (By the way, I have popped on to your blog many times before. I am certain I know it.)

Its working great. CoComment wrote about the glitch on their blog, server problems. Also, the team talked about some updates to their service, an enhancement to track all comments.

They said it would work with all comments. They are planning on concentrating a search engine on comments and tracking all comments made on your blog, be it by coCommentors or not, through your coCommenting account.

Interesting. For some reason, I believe that the coComment extension for Firefox eats up some memory, but I’m not sure.
Now I found out why the the number of POSTS has been screwed up in separate numbers in the coCo list. Jack you’re right, if I’m using the bookmarks it shows https (with “s”) while using the comment page box no “s”.
How did it happen?
I think its for dynamic pages.
I don’t know how to fix this bug in WordPress, but I would certainly be careful when submitting posts to coComment, making sure the http page is sent. When I see https in my browser address bar, I delete the extra s.

I noticed it a couple of days back. You can do as Jack Yan does – I do that as well. But if you click on “visit this blog” in coComment it will take you directly to the http page. I still check for the extra s though.
I just noticed that from time to time, less now than before, my comments wouldn’t be sent to coComment and I got a warning about that. Before, the comment wouldn’t even make it to the blog. Now, if there is a problem, it makes it on the blog. I’ve lost a few comments like that. Also, the Benevolence theme from WP doesn’t support coCommenting.

In cases where the comment makes it to the blog and not to coCo, highlight the message and then click the bookmarklet. You can then add the comment to coCo (via the pop-up box) without adding it to the blog. I’ll check out the site you just mentioned, Range.

I actually I tried using the bookmarklet whilst selecting the comment before submitting it to coCo, and it didn’t work. Maybe its because I’m using the firefox extension.

I can trackback my coComments too but just wondering why this post won’t show up anymore considering there are numbers of comments have appeared more than the ones that are already on the top of the lists. So I thought the coComments is not very stable once the traffic is overflowing.
I don’t know about that one… Maybe check with the blog on coComments, they will tell what’s what. They responded promptly to my comments last time I went there.

Here’s your answer, K: it’s simply been overtaken. Remember that not all the comments above went into coCo, only 66 of them. To be in the all-time list now, you need over 72. ‘Wanchai Red Lights’ is at 72 now, so you are still in the top threads, and K, Speaking! is still the top blog recorded by coComment.
K, you also have 37 (including the one I accidentally did above) referring to https. But if we can get a few more, at least we can put you back over 72.
I don’t know if this helps, K, but I entered the above comment (123) on your http page. After I click ‘Say it!’, I am taken to your https page.
I am going in to coComment and getting some of the old comments I made under https and sticking them under the regular page! That will get your total up!
K, I did it: I added some of my old comments from the https thread into the regular one, so this now appears as one of the all-time coComment conversations!
Moderation is good. You only stop it once you start getting hundreds of comments every day. If I have 1000000 page views every month, well you can bet that I will stop moderation too. Though I won’t take them off, like some blogs. I like the interaction. And for now, I enjoy posting an immediate reply to any comment, I find it creates conversations.

That’s how coComment made this post longer, the conversation keeps going on and on which makes us blog, leave comments and meet friends until it become a conversation.
Hey is there a way to unsubscribe from a comment in cocomment. I have two comment threads I don’t want to track anymore.
Yes you can, I think if you’re only deleting a comment or a thread not to show up in the list. I have tried deleting and it worked. However, for as long as some people are using coComment, it will show up in thread whenever someone leave their comments on that particular post/entry you made. But to unsubscribe entirely to one post, I don’t know that yet.
Hasn’t been an issue for me, but you can always leave a post on their blog (coCommets guys). They will answer you pretty quickly.

I remember AltaVista; in fact, we used to license content to them. I was at the site not too long ago, thinking, ‘Hey, I remember when I used to search with this!’ The money that used to change hands back then for domain names!

Range, did you notice, the wordpress.com stats aren’t working since yesterday. I wonder when is it going to be fixed? When I opened my blog this morning, I was surprised everytime I click refresh the numbers went up to 2 thousand marks. Later this evening it lowered back but it’s still frozen.
I hope the beta version works faster. Eversince I made an upgrade on my IE, yahoo chat, messenger in beta, it responded very slow.
Yep K, my stats have been frozen since yesterday, EST. My number of visitors is stuck at a certain number. I hope they fix it soon, it’s a bit annoying, cause I check my traffic regularly.
Ever since I’ve installed some plugins and extension for firefox, my computer is a lot slower. I think It’s time that I format it again. It’s been some time since I have done that.
Well I heard there’s a new upgrade for Firefox? I haven’t tried that yet but I think I will keep the older version. It says that there are few features improved like subscribing to feeds but I think it is still not designed in full use for regular users at this point, I’m not sure tho.
I’m a bit wary of betas. Especially when they crash. Browsers specifically.

WP fixed the stats issue, but the stats page in the dashboard is still showing bad information, ie the same numbers as this morning.
Update, the stats page isn’t yet fixed. And I have been getting a lot of visits in the last few hours. If this continues, I’ll have my most visited day today.
I think the DASHBOARD has not been fixed. It still shows weird stats, it doesn’t count correctly at all. I think the admin guys from wp made a sticky post for webstats and it has now been resolved. I just went to your site and it looks normal to me.
K, you are right you can delete your own comment in cocomment on the dashboard. I am realizing that’s not what I really want to do. I think you should be able to archive a comment conversation. This would let you review old comment conversations, but also push the conversations you are no longer actively pursuing into another area, away from your active list.
Hey, looks like the new coComment is online and is tracking all comments not just the ones made through coComment on your conversations. Pretty cool
yes indeed, this really changes blogging. Congratulations to CoComment, I think those guys are virtually the only company that has worked so hard to crack the problem of comment tracking.
Honestly, the new feature is making me confused. I can’t track my own comments anymore and it’s giving me this “ZoneX” tracking article. What is it?
Hey has anyone noticed the number of comments decreased for this posting. Must be teething troubles with the servers. Lets hope the folks at cocomment iron out the troubles with the system.
It must be the wordpress set up, I’m not sure. I’m not upset over this but trying to get used to it. It seemed like a complete overhaul and other people might find it strange for the timebeing. Hopefully coCo still is great to use, I’ll keep on using it.
I don’t think its wordpress, as its right across all of my cocomment tracks. Some of them are on other blogging platforms. Unless you still see all the comments on other blogging platforms but not wordpress? I think its just a server issue. Can you imagine the amount of information cocomment will have to track now. What is there business model anyway. I’d be willing to contribute something for server costs.
I am finding it slow, but have taken it up with the coCo guys. John, that is good of you to contribute to their servers.

Just read something relevant, you have to clear the cache of your browser when installing the new version of coCo. Otherwise, you can run into some problems.
